Elizabeth A. Davis, M.D., F.A.C.S. is an ophthalmologist at Minnesota Eye Consultants with subspecialty training in corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery. Dr. Davis sees patients at offices in Bloomington. She was born in Boston and grew up in Annapolis, MD, where she was the valedictorian of her high school class. She attended Cornell University as an undergraduate, graduating summa cum laude in mathematics with distinction in all subjects (top 5% of her class). She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Mortar Board National Honor Societies. She was selected as a Presidential Scholar and received several research awards. Dr. Davis completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, graduating first in her class. She received a Dean’s Award and Lange Medical Student Award each year of medical school. She also received the Franklin Paine Mall Prize in Anatomy, Hewlett-Packard Top Medical Graduate Award, and the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Award. She was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and won research awards as well as the prestigious William Stewart Halsted Award in surgery. She completed four years of cardiac surgery residency at Johns Hopkins before changing specialties to ophthalmology. At Johns Hopkins, she also completed a two-year immunology research fellowship, being supported by an American Heart Association Fellowship Award and Stetler Research Award. For her ophthalmology residency, Dr. Davis attended Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. She then received a HEED Ophthalmic Foundation Scholarship to complete subspecialty fellowship training in cornea, external disease, refractive surgery, and glaucoma at Minnesota Eye Consultants. Dr. Davis is an attending surgeon and partner of Minnesota Eye Consultants. She is a member of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Refractive Surgery Interest Group and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. She has been a member of the AAO Committee for Ophthalmic Technology Development, the ASCRS Refractive Surgery Committee, and the ASCRS Government Relations Committee. Dr. Davis is actively involved in the research. She is an investigator in numerous FDA clinical studies. She also is an instructor for surgery training courses. Dr. Davis has given numerous talks across the country and internationally and has been an invited speaker at many meetings. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters in the field of refractive, cataract, and cornea surgery. Dr. Davis is the Founder and Director of The Vision Project, a program created in 2002 through the Minnesota Eye Foundation to provide charitable eye surgery to qualifying patients in need. She is also the Founder and Director of Strides 4 Sight, a yearly 5K Walk/Run and Kids’ Fun Run that raises funds to support The Vision Project as well as the medical needs of other patients without financial resources.

If you’re concerned you may be affected by cataracts, we recommend scheduling a Cataract Evaluation with one of our cataract specialists. If cataract surgery is indeed recommended, your surgeon will discuss your visual goals following the procedure. It’s possible you may be eligible for an upgraded lens or vision package, if you wish to become less dependent upon glasses or contacts following the procedure.

The key to preventing serious vision loss or blindness from glaucoma is early detection. An annual, fully dilated eye examination is highly recommended and could uncover this disease before symptoms even occur. Although vision loss from glaucoma can’t be recovered, we are fortunate to have plenty of treatment options available to help halt the progression of this disease and avoid further vision damage. There’s a wide spectrum of treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the patient’s glaucoma. Eye medications are often the first method used in treating glaucoma, and are designed to either reduce the amount of aqueous humor being made within the eye, or help this fluid flow better through the natural drainage system. For patients who may need more drastic measures, laser procedures and even surgery may be better options. Each method has the ability to lower the internal eye pressure to a certain degree, and the surgeon will thoroughly discuss his or her recommended treatment plan with you.
Corneal problems can happen to anyone at any age. If something such as disease, injury, or infection damages the cornea, it can become cloudy and warped. A damaged cornea distorts light as it travels into the eye, affecting your vision. It may even be painful. The smoothness and shape of the cornea is vitally important to its proper functioning, as is its transparency. If either the surface smoothness, or the clarity of the cornea surface is disturbed, vision becomes distorted.
Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is a specialized area of ophthalmology that deals with the management of disorders of the eyelids, lacrimal (tear) system, the orbit (the bone cavity surrounding the eye), and the adjacent face. Minnesota Eye Consultants’ surgeon’s specialties encompass surgery of the eyelids, tear drainage system and the orbit. Sometimes people don’t produce enough tears or the right quality of tears to keep their eyes healthy and comfortable. Enjoy life without depending on reading glasses! The KAMRA inlay treatment is an eye procedure that restores near vision and frees you from the constant frustrations of reading glasses or contact lenses for everyday activities. The KAMRA inlay sits in the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the inlay is a mini-ring with an opening – or pinhole – in the center. This pinhole allows only focused light to enter your eye. The KAMRA inlay is placed in only one eye, allowing you to see up close, while maintaining your distance vision in both eyes. Your non-KAMRA eye is left untouched. Working together, the eyes allow you to see near and far without grabbing for your near-vision glasses. This is unlike monovision laser vision correction, which corrects one eye for near and one eye for distance.
Contact lenses are medical devices worn directly on the surface of the eye. Like eyeglasses, contact lenses help to correct refractive errors by adding or subtracting focusing power to the eye’s cornea and lens. Contacts provide a safe and effective way to correct vision when used with care and proper supervision. They can be a good alternative to eyeglasses, depending on your eyes and your lifestyle. For certain conditions, contact lenses may be considered medically necessary.

This is a set apart clinic schedule, specifically designed to accommodate any same day/next day urgent patient needs. Cared for by members of our Optometric Service Team, as well as our fellows and general ophthalmology team, patients can be scheduled as late as 5pm. Typical symptoms treated include corneal abrasions, lid lacerations, post-surgical concerns, foreign body injuries, severe eye pain, red/irritated eye – and more.
